After all the bad press Nick Coleman has given bloggers—Power Line especially...
Nick Coleman's Blog
It's too bad he didn't leave the comments on though. :-(
Update: In Nick's first and only post is about a Strib Mindworks feature that asks students this question concerning the poor:
"If you saw a homeless person begging at the roadside, would you stop to give him or her money? Why or why not?"Nick posts one of the students replies:
I would not give this person money. Giving him money is not going to help them from being homeless, and I do not know what they would spend the money on. I would rather give the money to the food shelf, or some other organization that helps people in need.Nick in his usual fashion ridicules the students reply with a biblical scene he knows nothing about. Although he should because I believe Power Line already called him on the mistake in a post called "The gospel according to Saint Nick".
Hey Alex! Maybe you ought to consider becoming a Christian. After all, once upon a time, a homeless couple came to Bethlehem, looking for shelter. They didn't go looking for a food shelf.Mr Coleman doesn't get it I guess. Not only is the student willing to help, but is smart enough to make sure he is actually helping the homeless by giving to a food shelf, and not possibly buying a bottle of wine.
Also Mary and Joseph were not looking for a "food shelf" because they were not poor, nor were they "homeless" (they were on a journey to pay their yearly taxes). Mary was pregnant and due. The birth was imminent. The last thing they needed was food, or a place to sleep. They needed a place for Mary to give birth but because of it being tax time all the inns were full.
